Anne Boleyn / Ugly Betty Necklace
Have you watched The Other Boleyn Girl starring Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson & Eric Bana?
The movie was based on the book written by Philippa Gregory where the heroine is the unknown Other Boleyn Girl, Mary Boleyn.
I’m sidetracking a bit, I know… We all have heard of Queen Anne Boleyn but never another Boleyn lady named, Mary, who played such a great yet invisible role in the history of England under the Tudors.
Mary Boleyn (Scarlett Johansson) was the lover of King Henry VIII (Eric Bana); she had to sacrifice her feelings for him to let her sister Anne Boleyn be the Queen of England. A blessing in disguise for she was able to keep her head at the end of the movie whereas her sister, the Queen’s head tumbled to the ground
I was entranced by the movie’s court drama & intrigue and most especially the costumes…..my shoppingbug instinct kicked in and after the movie I told my hubby I would want to have the necklace of Anne Boleyn (portrayed by Natalie Portman) of course in my initial (J).
The necklace had real historical roots as proven by this portrait of Queen Anne Boleyn and it’s not just from the imagination of the movie’s costume designers.
For the movie, they did an exact replica of what the Queen could have worn in the past.
While watching reruns of Ugly Betty (the new season will premier 24April08) I suddenly took notice Betty was wearing the Anne Boleyn necklace!!! That episode aired 6Dec07 but stylist Patricia Field showed her fashion forwardness by having Betty wear it before the Other Boleyn Girl was shown 2 months after in theaters!
Upon seeing the Boleyn necklace in Ugly Betty, it triggered again my desire to have one.
Here are 2 sites that I found selling the Anne Boleyn/Ugly Betty necklace:
1. Parrish Relics - http://www.parrishrelics.com/hboleyn.html
Price: $192
This is also where Ugly Betty stylist Patricia Field got the necklace for America Ferrera to wear. Her necklace was also featured in In Style UK.
The relic is made of PVC/polymer/resin clay and it is handpainted while the pearls are faux glass pearls. Each item is individually sculpted by the artist Jennifer Parrish. Lovely! But I wish for the price the pearls are freshwater pearls
This is how mine would look like if I order a Boleyn necklace.
2. Little Luxuries http://www.lizslittleluxuries.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=864406
Price: $50
The “B” is made of finished polymer clay while the pearls are 8mm glass pearls.
Hmmm I’m thinking where I should order….what do you think?
